Until then, let us know in the comment section below if you have experienced this issue on your Surface device. Microsoft will hopefully fix this issue with the next Insider Fast build. The workaround is to hold down the power button to force the device to hard-reboot. We’re investigating an issue in which some Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Book devices experience a freeze or hang and all input such as keyboard/trackpad and touch do not work. Nonetheless, if you face this issue, there is only one workaround and that is to force your Surface to hard reboot by holding down the power button. This is, indeed, a major issue but this is expected on Insider Fast builds nowadays. Windows 10 Build 14269 introduces a new freezing issue which causes the Surface Book, Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 to hang and cause any input (keyboard, trackpad or touch) to stop working. If you are someone who installs the latest Insider builds and owns one of the latest Surface devices, you may face some issues with the latest build. Open your HP BIOS and go to the Advanced Settings tap.Microsoft released Windows 10 Build 14269 to Insiders in the Fast Ring. On some HP laptops, you can go to the BIOS and change this setting. Of course, the only way to tell which state it’s in is to wait and see if the light turns off. When you tap it, it toggles through its three states. Hold down the Fn key and press the Caps key again to unlock them. Click the + sign next to System Configuration. Immediately start pressing the F2 key once per second (if the computer boots into Windows, shut down the computer and try again). With the computer powered off, press the power button. You can toggle the state via the keyboard light button. For Type Cover, Type Cover 2, and Type Cover for Surface Pro 3 Hold down the Fn key and press the Caps key to lock the function keys. Make sure the Keyboard backlit option is enabled in the BIOS. The backlit keyboard on an HP laptop works in three states off, time-out, and always on. If you have a Dell laptop, you even control the time-out duration. On both Dell and HP laptops, you can set your backlit keyboard to always on. If the manufacturer doesn’t have an option to set the backlit keyboard to always on, you are out of luck. It’s up to the device manufacturer to provide it. Windows doesn’t have a built-in option to control the backlit keyboard on a laptop. This has its limitations foremost of which is the make of your laptop. If you find the timeout counterproductive, you can set your backlit keyboard to always on. To turn the light on again, you have to tap any key or tap your touchpad.

The light times out usually after 5-10 seconds if you don’t use your keyboard or touchpad.
